Let’s talk about “EDDIE”
EDDIE First Prototype set in August 2025
EDDIE is an embedded computer system
It’s specifications are a bit mercurial though - and thats’ how we want it. We started with the vague premise that there were applications where a PLC might be too much or not exactly the right fit. At the same time developing a board with an embedded processor is probably an overly expensive proposition. Or yet another approach: breadboarding educational, hobby or evaluation modules with a less than robust outcome. Perhaps a system of modules that could be fitted together in a way that was mechanically sound, had impressive and economical electronic performance and provided a software ecosystem could be an attractive product.
Not exactly best-in-class market research, but borne out of experience building a wide range of embedded systems I started to conceive of EDDIE.
In more concrete ways I was looking for a solution I could use to test battery charging and LED lighting circuits in development and production. I am also planning to build automated test jigs for products we are putting into production. I’d also just come away from work that had moved away from wired PLC panels back to more purpose built and integrated electronics and I felt that scientific, research and some industrial applications we were persuing had obvious needs for a modular system.
